A black screen is frustrating because it gives no clue. Start by noting whether you hear sound and whether it happens on one channel or all of them.
Black screen with sound
The stream is arriving, but the video is not displayed. 1. Switch the player engine (ExoPlayer, VLC, built-in) in the app settings. 2. Toggle hardware decoding on or off. 3. Turn off frame rate matching in the player or device; some TVs go black when switching modes. 4. Check HDMI: try another HDMI port or cable; enable HDMI 2.0 / UHD colour on 4K channels.
Black screen, no sound
Nothing is arriving. 5. Test another channel. If others play, that channel is down; try its backup. 6. Check the account: if every channel is black, your plan may have expired or your login changed. 7. Restart device and router.
One device only
- Reinstall the player after clearing its data. Corrupt caches cause black screens on Firestick.
| Pattern | First thing to try |
|---|---|
| Black + sound, one channel | Player engine |
| Black + sound, all 4K channels | HDMI and HEVC support |
| Black, silent, all channels | Account status and internet |
| Black on TV, fine on phone | That device's app or HDMI |
