You reach your router's settings through a web address printed on its label (often 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) or through its app.
Settings that help
| Setting | Suggestion |
|---|---|
| Firmware | Update to the latest version |
| Band steering | Off, then put the TV on 5 GHz yourself |
| QoS / traffic priority | Prioritise the TV or streaming box |
| Channel width (5 GHz) | 80 MHz for speed |
| DNS | 1.1.1.1 / 8.8.8.8 (see DNS guide) |
| Reserved IP | Give the TV box a fixed local address for QoS |
Settings to leave alone
- IPTV / VLAN settings in the router are for your ISP's own TV service, not for apps over the internet. Leave them off unless your ISP says otherwise.
- UPnP has no effect on IPTV apps.
ISP router or your own?
ISP routers are often basic. A good router or mesh system with QoS can make a big difference in busy homes. Keep the ISP box in modem or bridge mode if you add your own.
