# Is IPTV legal?

> Is IPTV legal? The technology is; what matters is whether a service holds rights to its channels in your country. How to judge a provider.

IPTV itself is a delivery method used by telecom companies and broadcasters worldwide. Whether a particular service is legal depends on whether it is licensed to distribute its channels where you live.

## What is clearly legal

- IPTV player apps ([TiviMate](https://blog.vikingiptvofficial.com/tivimate-iptv-setup/), Smarters, VLC).
- Streaming sticks and boxes without pre-loaded content.
- Services that hold the rights to the channels they offer in your country.

## What is not

- Services that rebroadcast channels without permission.
- "Fully loaded" boxes and modified apps with unlicensed channels.

## How to judge a service

Question | Good sign |
Is there a real business behind it? | Company details, terms, refund policy |
Can you contact support before buying? | Clear answers |
Are prices realistic? | Not "lifetime for $20" |
Does it say where it can be used? | Clear terms |

Laws differ by country and change. Nothing here is legal advice; if unsure, check the rules where you live before subscribing to any service.
